Federal Skilled Trades Class Eligibility
The Federal Skills Trades Class requires an applicant to meet the following 4 requirements:
- at least 2 years experience (at least 30 hours per week) in the preceding 5 years in the occupation in which the person applies (must be in the list of occupations below). During this period the person must have performed the duties in the relevant jurisdictions independently (that means if it is a regulated occupation the person must hold the required approvals to work independently); AND
- A Canadian Provincial Certificate of Qualification “Blue Seal or Red Seal” OR, a Labour Market Impact Assessment;” AND
- The applicant must also have a minimum specific language ability
- Obtain enough points in the Express Entry (the most recent invite took pale at about 415 ponits)
Language Minimum
CLB = Canadian Language Benchmark
IELTS – International English Language Test
CLB 5 for speaking = IELTS 5
CLB 5 for listening = IELTS 5
CLB 4 for reading = IELTS 3.5
CLB 4 for writing = IELTS 4
The above three requirements are the minimum requirements to be eligible in this immigration class. The most recent draw out of the Express Entry Pool was 357 points (October 2019)
Eligible Occupations
There are ninety (90) skilled trades currently eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Program. They are organized under the following ‘major’ and ‘minor’ ‘groups’ of the National Occupation Classification (NOC):
- Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades,
- Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades,
- Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production,
- Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators,
- Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks, and
- Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers.
The 90 occupations under these 6 groups are as follows:
