At the moment only a small number of trades require Canadian certification in BC. They are elevator mechanics, certain trades that operate ammonia as well power engineers.

Others such as welders, electricians, automotive mechanics did not have to obtain a Red Seal in Canada to work in these occupations. It was reported in the media that certain trades will require certification in the future such as construction electrician, industrial electrician, powerline technician, gasfitter, steamfitter-pipefitter, heavy equipment technician and automotive service technicians.

The electrical trades will require certification in 2023 (18 months) and the rest in 2025.
